การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวัดระดับทัศนคติและเพื่อเปรียบเทียบทัศนคติของประชาคมต่อบทบาทของมหาวิทยาลัยวลัยลักษณ์ในการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจท้องถิ่น กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัย เป็นชาวบ้านอำเภอท่าศาลา จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช กลุ่มตัวอย่างจำนวน 100 คน ซึ่งได้มาโดยการสุ่มอย่างง่าย เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ แบบสอบถาม การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการหาค่าเฉลี่ยอย่างง่าย และค่าสถิติ Non-parametric test ซึ่งได้แก่ T-test F-test ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1.การวัดระดับทัศนคติของประชาคมต่อบทบาทของมหาวิทยาลัยวลัยลักษณ์ในการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจท้องถิ่นใน 6 ด้านพบว่าในภาพรวมอยู่ในระดับดี 2.การเปรียบเทียบทัศนคติต่อบทบาทของมหาวิยาลัยวลัยลักษณ์ พบว่าในภาพรวมเมื่ออายุต่างกันทัศนคติต่อบทบาทมหาวิทยาลัยวลัยลักษณ์แตกต่างกันที่ระดับนัยสำคัญ .05 การอภิปรายผลพบว่า จากผลการวิจัยทัศนคติของประชาคมต่อบทบาทของมหาวิทยาลัยวลัยลักษณ์มีระดับทัศนคติต่อบทบาทในแต่ละด้าน อยู่ในระดับดี โดยด้านการฟื้นฟูและอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมมีค่าเฉลี่ยทัศนคติมากที่สุด เป็นเพราะในสภาพท้องถิ่นสังคมในปัจจุบันไม่ค่อยมีการอนุรักษ์วัฒนธรรมอาจเป็นเพราะได้รับอิทธิพลต่างๆจากวัฒนธรรมตะวันตกหรือในปัจจุบันเทคโนโลยีมันก้าวไกลมากส่งผลให้ความเป็นอยู่ในปัจจุบันไม่มีใครสนใจที่จะสนใจวัฒนธรรมแบบเดิมๆ
