ประเพณีก่อเจดีย์ทราย เป็นประเพณีสำคัญประเพณีหนึ่งในช่วงเทศกาลของชาวไทย ประเพณีนี้มีที่มาจากหลักฐานใน พระไตรปิฎก ที่กล่าวพรรณาถึงอานิสงส์ที่พระโพธิสัตว์ก่อพระเจดีย์ทรายเพื่อถวายเป็นพุทธบูชา

ปัจจุบันประเพณีนี้พบเพียงในประเทศไทยและลาวเท่านั้น โดยจัดในช่วงเทศกาลสำคัญเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองการเปลี่ยนศักราช เช่นในวันตรุษและวันสงกรานต์ เป็นต้น โดยในบางหมู่บ้านอาจเป็นประเพณีบุญคูนลาน บุญขวัญข้าว (ก่อเจดีย์ข้าวถวายเป็นพุทธบูชา) ก็อาจนับว่าเป็นประเพณีก่อเจดีย์ทรายได้เช่นเดียวกัน เพราะไม่ได้สร้างเป็นพุทธศาสนสถานถาวรวัตถุใหญ่โต แต่เป็นเพียงเจดีย์ชั่วคราวเพื่อมุ่งถวายเป็นพุทธบูชาในการประเพณีหนึ่ง ๆ เท่านั้น
