โดยในปี 2543 มีนักท่องเที่ยวจีนเดินทางเข้าไทยประมาณเกือบ 8 แสนคน ระยะเวลาที่ท่องเที่ยวในประเทศไทยประมาณ 8 วัน และมีค่าใช้จ่ายประมาณ 4,300 บาท/คน/วัน ทำรายได้ให้แก่ประเทศอย่างมาก โดยในขณะเดียวกัน จำนวนนักท่องเที่ยวชาวไทยที่เดินทางมาเที่ยวจีนก็เพิ่มมากขึ้น โดยจำนวนเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ประมาณ 1.5 แสนคน

ในปี 2549 (มกราคม-กันยายน) มีนักท่องเที่ยวจีนเดินทางไปประเทศไทยจำนวน 747,067 เพิ่มขึ้น 36.93%

สำหรับปี 2548 มีนักท่องเที่ยวจีนเดินทางไปประเทศไทยจำนวน 776792 คน เพิ่มขึ้น 6.43% จากปี 2547
