ปริญญานิพนธ์นี้เป็นการศึกษางานวิจัยเรื่องผลกระทบของรูปร่างอากาศพลศาสตร์ต่อการประหยัดน้ำมันเชื้อเพลิงสำหรับรถบรรทุกของนาย ณัฐพงษ์ คล้ายทรง ที่ผ่านมาซึ่งเป็นการศึกษาอากาศพลศาสตร์ ที่เกิดขึ้นกับรถบรรทุกที่มีการติดอุปกรณ์เสริม ที่ใช้การจำลองเชิงตัวเลขโดย ทดสอบรถ 5 กรณี คือ กรณีปกติปิดกระบะบรรทุก กรณีเสริมด้านท้ายกระบะ กรณีปิดช่องว่างบริเวณรอยต่อกระบะ กรณีเสริมด้านหน้ารถ และกรณีเสริมด้านหน้ารถและเสริมผิวโค้งบริเวณหลังคารถ
ซึ่งผลที่ได้จากงานวิจัยที่ผ่านมานั้น เป็นเพียงแค่ผลในทางทฤษฎีที่ไม่ชัดเจน ซึ่งยังขาดผลในทางปฏิบัติที่จะสามารถพิสูจน์ความถูกต้องของงานวิจัยดังกล่าวได้ ดังนั้นจุดประสงค์หลักของปริญญานิพนธ์นี้จึงเน้นเรื่องการออกแบบ สร้าง ติดตั้งอุปกรณ์เสริมเข้ากับตัวรถบรรทุก เพื่อทดสอบหาอัตราการสิ้นเปลืองเชื้อเพลิงของรถบรรทุก ทุกๆกรณี ซึ่งผลการทดสอบสัมประสิทธิ์แรงต้านจากการจำลองอุปกรณ์เสริมที่ติดตั้งกับรถบรรทุกในแต่ละกรณีจะต้องมีความสัมพันธ์และแนวโน้มที่สอดคล้องกับผลการทดสอบอัตราการสิ้นเปลืองเชื้อเพลิงของรถบรรทุก แนวความคิดในงานวิจัยดังกล่าวจึงจะเป็นจริง
