ปี ๒๕๔๙ สำนักงานคณะกรรมการวัฒนธรรมแห่งชาติ ได้จัดทำองค์ความรู้ เรื่อง มารยาทไทย ประกอบด้วย การกำหนด ความหมาย ขอบข่าย ลำดับความสำคัญ และการปรับปรุงรายละเอียดการปฏิบัติท่ามารยาทไทย เรื่องการแสดงความเคารพ ซึ่งจัดทำโดย คณะกรรมการดำเนินงานด้านมารยาทไทยโดยมี นายพะนอม แก้วกำเนิด เป็นประธานในการดำเนินงาน และได้ประชุมปฏิบัติการเมื่อวันที่ ๒๖ กันยายน ๒๕๔๙ ณ ห้องประชุมกองอำนวยการร่วม ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมแห่งประเทศไทย ทั้งนี้วัตถุประสงค์ของการจัดทำองค์ความรู้ดังกล่าว ก็เพื่อธำรงรักษาวัฒนธรรมด้านมารยาทไทยอันเป็นรูปแบบปฏิบัติของคนไทยให้คงอยู่คู่ชาติไทย ทั้งนี้ได้มีการปรับปรุงเนื้อหาและการปฏิบัติให้มีความเหมาะสมกับยุคสมัยมากยิ่งขึ้น

ความหมาย มารยาท

มารยาท หมายถึง กิริยา วาจาที่สุภาพเรียบร้อย ที่บุคคลพึงปฏิบัติในสังคมโดยมีระเบียบแบบแผน อันเหมาะสมตามกาลเทศะ

ขอบข่าย มารยาทไทย

มารยาทไทยครอบคลุมถึงกิริยา วาจาต่าง ๆ เช่น การยืน การเดิน การนั่ง การนอน การรับของส่งของ การทำความเคารพ การแสดงกิริยาอาการ การรับประทานอาหาร การให้และรับบริการ การทักทาย การสนทนา การใช้คำพูด การฟัง การใช้เครื่องมือสื่อสาร รวมทั้งการประพฤติปฏิบัติในพิธีการต่าง ๆ

มารยาทไทย เป็นเอกลักษณ์สำคัญของคนไทย ควรกำหนดขึ้นไว้เป็นแนวทางประพฤติปฏิบัติ ดังนี้
