อธิบดีกรมการขนส่งทางบก กล่าวต่อว่า กรมการขนส่งทางบกเพิ่มความเข้มข้นในการควบคุมกำกับดูแล โดยตั้งเป้าลดจำนวนอุบัติเหตุของรถโดยสารสาธารณะให้เกิดขึ้นน้อยที่สุด โดยเฉพาะจำนวนอุบัติเหตุของรถโดยสารสาธารณะที่มีสาเหตุอันเนื่องมาจากตัวรถ หรือผู้ขับรถ ภายใต้แนวคิด “สุขกาย สุขใจ ขับขี่ปลอดภัย รับปีใหม่ 2559” ได้กำชับทุกหน่วยงาน ทั้งในส่วนกลางและส่วนภูมิภาค บูรณาการทำงานร่วมกับหน่วยงานสังกัดกระทรวงคมนาคม และหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องในพื้นที่ เพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกและความปลอดภัยในการเดินทางของประชาชนอย่างใกล้ชิด โดยจัดให้บริการทั่วไทยในช่วง 7 วันการเดินทาง ณ สถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารทั้ง 110 แห่ง รวมทั้งสำนักงานขนส่งทั่วประเทศ กำชับผู้ประกอบการจัดเตรียมรถโดยสารประจำทาง และรถโดยสารไม่ประจำทางให้เพียงพอกับความต้องการประชาชน

นายสนิท กล่าวถึงกรณีต้องการนำรถโดยสารไม่ประจำทางมาให้บริการเสริมในช่วงเทศกาลว่า ผู้ให้บริการเดินรถต้องได้รับอนุญาตจากกรมการขนส่งทางบกเป็นรายกรณี ต้องปฏิบัติตามเงื่อนไขการเดินรถ ห้ามคิดอัตราค่าโดยสารเกิน และต้องส่งผู้โดยสารถึงที่หมายด้วยความสะดวก และปลอดภัย ด้านพนักงานขับรถแอลกอฮอล์ต้องเป็นศูนย์ และขับรถไม่เกินชั่วโมงการทำงานตามที่กฎหมายกำหนด หากขับรถติดต่อกันครบ 4 ชั่วโมง ต้องพักเป็นเวลาไม่น้อยกว่า 30 นาที จึงจะสามารถขับรถต่อไปได้อีกไม่เกิน 4 ชั่วโมงติดต่อกัน เมื่อครบระยะเวลาดังกล่าวต้องเปลี่ยนคนขับทันที ทั้งนี้ได้จัดเจ้าหน้าที่ตรวจการตั้งจุดตรวจความพร้อมของรถโดยสารสาธารณะและพนักงานขับรถ ณ สถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสาร/จุดจอดรถ/จุดตรวจบนถนนสายหลัก 11 จังหวัด จำนวน 14 แห่ง ได้แก่ กำแพงเพชร ลำปาง พิษณุโลก ขอนแก่น บุรีรัมย์ นครราชสีมา ประจวบคีรีขันธ์ นครศรีธรรมราช สุราษฎร์ธานี สงขลา และระยอง โดยให้พนักงานขับรถลงมารายงานตัวต่อผู้ตรวจการขนส่ง เพื่อตรวจใบอนุญาตขับรถ ความอ่อนเพลีย ตรวจวัดระดับแอลกอฮอล์ในลมหายใจ สารเสพติด ฯลฯ
