นายมนตรี เภกะนันทน์ ผู้อำนวยการสมาคมวางแผนครอบครัวแห่งประเทศไทย กล่าวว่า ประเทศไทย ถูกจัดเป็นอันดับ 2 ของกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน ที่พบปัญหาการตั้งครรภ์ของสตรีที่ไม่พร้อม รองจาก สาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว โดยเฉพาะกับปัญหาการท้องก่อนแต่งของกลุ่มเด็กและเยาวชน ที่อยู่ระหว่างการศึกษา มากถึงร้อยละ 70 และในจำนวนนี้พบเด็กอายุ 12 ปี ประสบปัญหาดังกล่าวด้วยเช่นกัน แม้จะรู้วิธีป้องกัน แต่กลุ่มวัยรุ่นส่วนใหญ่ ยังคงไม่ปฏิบัติตาม

นายมนตรี กล่าวต่อว่า ในปีที่ผ่านมา พบปัญหาวัยรุ่นท้องก่อนแต่งที่ขอเข้ารับการบริการกับคลินิก สวท. มากถึง 200,000 ราย ซึ่ง จังหวัดขอนแก่น อุบลราชธานี และนครราชสีมา เป็นจังหวัดที่มีความเสี่ยงของการเกิดปัญหาดังกล่าวและมีการขอรับบริการมากที่สุด 3 อันดับแรกของภาคอีสาน ทำให้การสร้างเครือข่ายเยาวชนป้องกันปัญหาดังกล่าวเป็นสิ่งที่ทุกฝ่ายจะต้องร่วมมือกันแก้ไขปัญหาอย่างจริงจัง
