เขื่อนภูมิพล เป็นเขื่อนอเนกประสงค์แห่งแรกในประเทศไทย ลักษณะเป็นเขื่อนคอนกรีตรูปโค้ง เริ่มก่อสร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2496 แล้วเสร็จทำพิธีเปิดเมื่อวันที่ 17 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2507 เขื่อนนี้เดิมชื่อ เขื่อนยันฮี
