โรงเรียนสบเมยวิทยาคม  เริ่มก่อตั้งเ

โรงเรียนสบเมยวิทยาคม  เริ่มก่อตั้งเมื่อวันที่ 16 พฤษภาคม 2530 ตามนโยบายของกรมสามัญศึกษาในขณะนั้น ที่กำหนดให้มีการขยายจัดการศึกษาในโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาทุกอำเภอ  โดยอาศัยอาคารเรียนโรงเรียนบ้านแม่เกาะ มีนายเกษม พันธุรัตน์ ผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนแม่สะเรียง “บริพัตรศึกษา” เป็นผู้ดูแลในฐานะคณะกรรมการสามัญศึกษาประจำจังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน มีนักเรียนจำนวน 63  คน  เป็นนักเรียนชายจำนวน 29 คน  นักเรียนหญิงจำนวน 34 คน ต่อมาได้ย้ายมาทำการสอนในที่ตั้งปัจจุบัน เมื่อวันที่ 11 มิถุนายน  2530 โดยมีนายสุเทพ  นุชทรวง  เป็น ผู้บริหารคนแรก  เปิดทำการสอนในระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1  ถึงชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3  จนกระทั่งปีการศึกษา  2538 ได้เปิดสอนในระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายจนถึงปัจจุบัน
