พระเจดีย์ใหญ่ วัดบวรนิเวศวิหารก่อพระฤกษ์เมื่อเดือน ๑๐ ขึ้น ๑๑ ค่ำ ปีเถาะ ตรีศก จ.ศ.๑๑๙๓ (วันเสาร์ที่ ๑๗ กันยายน พุทธศักราช ๒๓๗๔) ในสมัยรัชกาลที่๓ และใช้เวลาก่อสร้างต่อมาจนถึงสมัยรัชกาลที่๔ องค์พระเจดีย์มีสัณฐานกลม มีคูหาภายในเป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ มีทักษิณ ๒ ชั้นเป็นสี่เหลี่ยม ที่องค์พระเจดีย์มีซุ้มเป็นทางเข้าสู่คูหา ๔ ซุ้ม กลางคูหาพระเจดีย์ประดิษฐานพระเจดีย์กาไหล่ทองบรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ และมีพระเจดีย์องค์ประดิษฐานอยู่โดยรอบพระเจดีย์กาไหล่ทองอีก ๔ องค์ คือ ด้านตะวันตก พระไพรีพินาศเจดีย์ ด้านใต้ พระเจดีย์บรมราชานุสรณ์พระชนมพรรษา ๕ รอบ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ด้านตะวันออก เป็นพระเจดีย์ไม้ปิดทอง ไม่ปรากฏประวัติ ด้านตะวันตก พระเจดีย์โลหะปิดทอง ไม่ปรากฏประวัติ
