ความสำคัญของเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศมีความสำคัญต่อการพัฒนาประเทศในด้านต่าง ๆ เป็นอย่างมาก ตัวอย่างเช่น การศึกษา เทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศช่วยในด้านการค้นคว้าศึกษาแหล่งข้อมูล ทำให้การศึกษาง่ายขึ้นและไร้ขีดจำกัด ผู้เรียนมีความสะดวกในการค้นคว้าวิจัย การดำรงชีวิตประจำวันทำให้มีความสะดวกคล่องตัวและรวดเร็วในการทำกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นในชีวิตประจำวัน สามารถทำงานได้หลายอย่างในเวลาเดียวกันได้หรือทำงานใช้เวลาน้อยลง การดำเนินธุรกิจ ทำให้มีการแข่งขันระหว่างธุรกิจมากขึ้น ทำให้ต้องมีการพัฒนาองค์กรเพื่อให้ทันกับข้อมูล ข่าวสารอยู่ตลอดเวลา อันส่งผลต่อการพัฒนาประเทศอย่างต่อเนื่อง อัตราการขยายตัวทุก ๆ ด้านที่เพิ่มขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็ว เพราะมีการติดต่อสื่อสารที่เจริญก้าวหน้าทันสมัย รวดเร็ว ถูกต้องและทำให้เป็นโลกที่ไร้พรมแดน ระบบการทำงานมีคอมพิวเตอร์มาใช้ซื่อสามารถทำงานได้มากขึ้น งานบางอย่างมนุษย์ทำไม่ได้ก็ใช้ คอมพิวเตอร์ช่วยทำงานแทนซึ่งได้ผลถูกต้องรวดเร็ว

ความสำคัญของอินเทอร์เน็ตในปัจจุบันอินเทอร์เน็ตมีบทบาทและมีความสำคัญต่อชีวิตประจาวันของคนเราเป็นอย่างมาก เพราะทำให้วิถีชีวิตเราทันสมัยและทันเหตุการณ์อยู่เสมอ เนื่องจากอินเทอร์เน็ตจะมีการเสนอข้อมูลข่าวปัจจุบัน และสิ่งต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นให้ผู้ใช้ทราบเปลี่ยนแปลงไปทุกวัน สารสนเทศที่เสนอในอินเทอร์เน็ตจะมีมากมายหลายรูปแบบเพื่อสนองความสนใจและความต้องการของผู้ใช้ทุกกลุ่ม อินเทอร์เน็ตจึงเป็นแหล่งสารสนเทศสำคัญสำหรับทุกคนเพราะสามารถค้นหาสิ่งที่ตนสนใจได้ในทันทีโดยไม่ต้องเสียเวลาเดินทางไปค้นคว้าในห้องสมุด หรือแม้แต่การรับรู้ข่าวสารทั่วโลกก็สามารถอ่านได้ในอินเทอร์เน็ตจากเว็บไซต์ต่างๆ ของหนังสือพิมพ์ ดังนั้นอินเทอร์เน็ตจึงมีความสำคัญกับวิถีชีวิตของคนเราในปัจจุบันเป็นอย่างมากในทุก ๆ ด้าน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบุคคลที่อยู่ในวงการธุรกิจ การศึกษา ต่างก็ได้รับประโยชน์จากอินเทอร์เน็ตด้วยกันทั้งนั้น

2.2 ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับสื่อสังคม Social Media
2.2.1 ความหมายของ Social Media
สำหรับในยุคนี้ เราคงจะหลีกเลี่ยงหรือหนีคำว่า Social Media ไปไม่ได้ เพราะไม่ว่าจะไปที่ไหน ก็จะพบเห็นมันอยู่ตลอดเวลา ซึ่งหลายๆ คนก็อาจจะยังสงสัยว่า “Social Media” มันคืออะไรกันแน่ วันนี้เราจะมารู้จักความหมายของมันกัน

คำว่า “Social” หมายถึง สังคม ซึ่งในที่นี้จะหมายถึงสังคมออนไลน์ ซึ่งมีขนาดใหม่มากในปัจจุบัน

คำว่า “Media” หมายถึง สื่อ ซึ่งก็คือ เนื้อหา เรื่องราว บทความ วีดีโอ เพลง รูปภาพ เป็นต้น

ดังนั้นคำว่า Social Media จึงหมายถึง สื่อสังคมออนไลน์ที่มีการตอบสนองทางสังคมได้หลายทิศทาง โดยผ่านเครือข่ายอินเตอร์เน็ต พูดง่ายๆ ก็คือเว็บไซต์ที่บุคคลบนโลกนี้สามารถมีปฏิสัมพันธ์โต้ตอบกันได้นั่นเอง

พื้นฐานการเกิด Social Media ก็มาจากความต้องการของมนุษย์หรือคนเราที่ต้องการติดต่อสื่อสารหรือมีปฏิสัมพันธ์กัน จากเดิมเรามีเว็บในยุค 1.0 ซึ่งก็คือเว็บที่แสดงเนื้อหาอย่างเดียว บุคคลแต่ละคนไม่สามารถติดต่อหรือโต้ตอบกันได้ แต่เมื่อเทคโนโลยีเว็บพัฒนาเข้าสู่ยุค 2.0 ก็มีการพัฒนาเว็บไซต์ที่เรียกว่า web application ซึ่งก็คือเว็บไซต์มีแอพลิเคชันหรือโปรแกรมต่างๆ ที่มีการโต้ตอบกับผู้ใช้งานมากขึ้น ผู้ใช้งานแต่ละคนสามารถโต้ตอบกันได้ผ่านหน้าเว็บ
