ในปัจจุบันนี้ป่าไม้ในประเทศไทยได้เหลือน้อยลงอย่างมาก ก็มีหลากหลายสาเหตุด้วยกัน ทั้งที่เกิดจากธรรมชาติและที่เกิดจากมนุษย์ ที่เกิดจากธรรมชาติก็อย่างเช่น เมื่อมีฝ้าผ่าลงมายังต้นไม้อาจทำให้เกิดไฟไหม้และลามไปยังที่อื่นๆด้วย หรือ การเสียดสีของกิ่งไม้ก็ทำให้เกิดความร้อนและไฟไหม้ตามมา และสาเหตุที่มาจากมนุษย์คือการที่ผู้คนเข้าไปในป่าไปก่อกองไฟแล้วลืมดับหรือดับไม่หมดก็ทำให้เกิดไฟไหม้ป่า หรือเกิดจากการเผาดินไล่วัชพืชแล้วลืมดับก็ทำให้เกิดไฟป่าเช่นกัน ทั้งนี้การเกิดไฟป่าก็จะส่งผลกระทบมายังผู้คนและสัตว์ที่อาศัยอยู่ในโลก คือ
ไม่มีออกซิเจนในการหายใจ เพราะเราต้องอาศัยออกซิเจนในการหายใจเพื่อที่จะมีชีวิตอยู่ หากต้นไม้ถูกเผาหรือไหม้ไปหมดจะทำให้ทั้งคนและสัตว์ตาย
เกิดน้ำป่าไหลหลาก เพราะเมื่อเกิดไฟป่าต้นไม้ก็จะลดลง เราก็ไม่มีต้นไม้ที่จะมาอุ้งน้ำและกันน้ำไว้ให้เรา ทำให้น้ำไหลมาท่วมกันเหมือนเช่นในปัจจุบันนี้
เกิดหมอกคันที่เป็นมลพิษ เพราะเมื่อการการเผาไหม้ก็เกิดก๊าซคาร์บอนต่างๆ เราจะเห็นได้จากภาคเหนือของประเทศไทย ที่มีการเผาป่าจนป่าไหม้แล้วเกิดควันที่เป็นมลพิษคุ้งกระจาย
ดังนั้น มนุษย์เราก็ควรจะต้องรักษาป่าไว้ให้ดี ต้องปลูกป่ากันให้มากๆ เพราะปัจจุบันป่าเหลือน้อยแล้ว เมื่อเราไปเที่ยวก็ไม่ควรจุดไฟหรือสูบบุหรี่ในป่า เมื่อเกิดไฟป่าก็จะส่งผลกระทบอย่างมากมายมาก เราก็จะอยู่กันอย่างลำบากเพราะหากป่าหมดไปเราก็จะไม่มีก๊าซออกซิเจนในการหายใจดำรงชีวิต
