เมื่อวันที่ ๒๕ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๘ ณ ห้องประชุม จิตติ ติงศภัทิย์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ท่าพระจันทร์ กลุ่มนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ ๔ วิชาหลักวิชาชีพนักกฎหมาย คณะนิติศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ได้จัดงานประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการ เรื่อง “สิทธิผู้ต้องหากกับบทบาทสื่อมวลชนและเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ” พร้อมเสนอข้อเรียกร้องเพื่อคุ้มครองสิทธิของผู้ต้องหา และผู้เสียหายในคดีออาญา โดยมีผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องเข้าร่วมงาน อาทิ พ.ต.อ.ดร.มานะ เผาะช่วย ผศ.ดร.ปกป้อง ศรีสนิท อาจารย์ประจำภาควิชานิติศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ นายมานพ ทิพย์โอสถ อุปนายกฝ่ายสิทธิเสรีภาาพและการปฏิรูปสื่อ สมาคมนักข่าวนักหนังสือพิมพ์แห่งประเทศไทย พร้อมตัวแทนจากศูนย์ฝึกอบบรมเด็กและเยาวชนบ้านกาญจนาภิเษก เข้าร่วม

ผศ.ดร.ปกป้อง ระบุว่า การเสนอข่าวที่กระทบต่อผู้ต้องหาหรือจำเลย หลักการสันนิษฐาน เราจะปฏิบัติต่อเขาเสมือนผู้มีความผิดไม่ได้ ทั้งนี้การนำเสนอข่าวการทำแผนประกอบคำรับสารภาพ โดยการใส่กุญแจมือนั้น เป็นการเสนอข่าวที่กระทบสิทธิผู้เสียหาย โดยการเผยแพร่ภาพข่าวที่ก่อให้เกิดความเสียหายในเหตุการณ์ที่ถูกกระทำ เสมือนการกระทำที่ละเมิดสิทธิ ดังนั้นการเสนอข่าวในลักษณะดังกล่าวถือเป็นการกระทบต่อสิทธิผู้เสียหาย ไม่ใช่ผู้ต้องหา
