สำหรับความสัมพันธ์ของภูเก็ต-ไห่หนานตั้งแต่มีการลงนามในเรื่องความสัมพันธ์เมืองพี่เมืองน้องกันมาตั้งแต่ปี 2548 นั้น ปีนี้ถือว่ามีความสำคัญเพราะเป็นปีแห่งการครบรอบ10 ปี ของการลงนามใน Agreement ซึ่งที่ผ่านมาทั้งสองเมืองก็มีการเยี่ยมเยียนไปมาหาสู่กันเรื่อยมา กิจกรรมสำคัญที่สร้างความประทับใจให้จังหวัดภูเก็ตในฐานะเมืองพี่เมืองนั้น ได้แก่
- การที่เมืองไห่หนานเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดงาน ITOP FORUM ครั้งที่ 17 ในปี 2556 ซึ่งทางเมืองไห่หนานได้จัดอย่างยิ่งใหญ่สมเกียรติ ทั้งในเรื่องพิธีการและภาพรวมของงาน มีเมืองสมาชิก ITOP FORUM สื่อมวลชนเป็นจำนวนมาก แสดงให้เห็นถึงการให้ความสำคัญของงาน และขณะเดียวกันคณะเดินทางจากจังหวัดภูเก็ตก็ได้รับการต้อนรับดูแลจากเมืองเจ้าภาพเป็นอย่างดี

- กิจกรรมที่ทางรัฐบาลจีนได้เชิญคณะผู้ว่าราชการจากกลุ่มจังหวัดภาคใต้ฝั่งอันดามันไปเยือนประเทศจีนและเมืองไห่หนานในช่วงเดือนธันวาคม 2557 ที่ผ่านมา ถือว่าเป็นกิจกรรมการส่งเสริมความเป็นบ้านพี่เมืองน้องที่ดีและมีประโยชน์เป็นอย่างยิ่ง โดยเฉพาะการที่ผู้นำของทั้งสองเมืองคือจังหวัดภูเก็ตและไห่หนานได้พบปะกัน และมีการแลกเปลี่ยนทัศนคติ แบ่งปันความคิดเห็นต่อกัน รวมทั้งการจัดศึกษาดูงานในหลายๆ ที่ของเมืองไห่หนาน เช่น การศึกษาดูงาน ณ พิพิธภัณฑ์ของมณฑลไห่หนาน การศึกษาดูงาน ณ ศูนย์วิจัยการปลูกยางซิ่นโจว เป็นต้น จึงถือได้ว่าเป็นเป็นการแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้ประสบการณ์ความเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของเมืองต่อกัน
