พิษณุโลก เป็นจังหวัดหนึ่งที่มีความสำคัญทางประวัติสาศตร์ สร้างเมื่อประมาณพุทธศตวรรษที่ 15 สมัยขอมมีอำนาจปกครองแถบนี้ แต่เดิมมีชื่อเรียกว่า "เมืองสองแคว" เนื่องจากเมืองนี้ตั้งอยู่ระหว่างแม่น้ำน่าน และแม่น้ำแควน้อย (ที่ตั้งของวัดจุฬามณีในปัจจุบัน) จ.พิษณุโลกอยู่ห่างจากกรุงเทพมหานครประมาณ 377 กม. มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 10,815 ต.ร.ก.ม. ลักษณะภูมิประเทศมีภูเขาและที่ราบสลับป่าไม้ในเขตตะวันออก นอกนั้นเป็นที่ราบลุ่มอยู่โดยทั่วไป และมีแม่น้ำสำคัญไหลผ่าน 2 สาย คือแม่น้ำน่าน และแม่น้ำยม แบ่งการปกครองออกเป็น 9 อำเภอ คือ อ.เมือง, อ.วังทอง, อ.พรหมพิราม, อ.บางระกำ, อ.บางกระทุ่ม, อ.นครไทย, อ.วัดโบสถ์, อ.ชาติตระการ, อ.เนินมะปราง
