ตลาดนัดจตุจักร เป็นตลาดนัดในกรุงเทพมหานคร มีจำนวนแผงค้าทั้งหมดมากกว่า 8,000 แผงค้า แบ่งเป็น 27 โครงการ มีตลาดแห่งนี้มีความเป็นมายาวนานกว่า 66 ปี เริ่มตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2491 ในสมัยจอมพล ป. พิบูลสงคราม อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี มีนโยบายให้จัดตั้งตลาดนัดขึ้นในทุกจังหวัด สำหรับกรุงเทพมหานครนั้นได้เลือกสนามหลวงเป็นสถานที่จัดตลาดนัด แต่เพียงไม่ถึงปีรัฐบาลก็ย้ายตลาดนัด ไปอยู่ในพระราชอุทยานสราญรมย์แล้วจึงย้ายออกไปตั้งอยู่บริเวณสนามไชย และย้ายตลาดนัดกลับไปอยู่ที่สนามหลวงในปี พ.ศ. 2501
ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2521 พลเอกเกรียงศักดิ์ ชมะนันท์ อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีนโยบายใช้สนามหลวงเป็นที่พักผ่อนหย่อนใจ และจัดงานสมโภชกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ 200 ปี การรถไฟแห่งประเทศไทยจึงได้มอบที่ดินย่านพหลโยธิน โดยการดำเนินการโดยนายเชาวน์วัศ สุดลาภา อดีตผู้ว่าราชการกรุงเทพมหานคร จึงจัดที่ดินสวนจตุจักรด้านทิศใต้ให้แก่ กรุงเทพมหานครเพื่อใช้ในกิจการสาธารณประโยชน์ และกรุงเทพมหานครได้ปรับพื้นที่เพื่อให้ผู้ค้าหาบเร่แผงลอยและขณะเดียวกันก็พยายามย้ายผู้ค้าจากสนามหลวงมาด้วย จนกระทั่งดำเนินการสำเร็จ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2525 โดยใช้ชื่อว่าตลาดนัดย่านพหลโยธิน ต่อมาเปลี่ยนชื่อใหม่เป็น “ตลาดนัดจตุจักร” ให้สอดคล้องกับสวนสาธารณะจตุจักรในบริเวณใกล้เคียง ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2530 จนถึงปัจจุบัน[1]
ในปัจจุบัน ตลาดนัดสวนจตุจักรได้เปลี่ยนอำนาจการดูแลจากกรุงเทพมหานคร สู่การรถไฟแห่งประเทศไทย โดยเริ่มตั้งแต่วันที่ 2 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2555 ซึ่งก็มีผู้ค้าขายแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ส่วน คือ ทั้งเห็นด้วย และไม่เห็นด้วย[2]สินค้า 8 ประเภท ได้แก่ ผักและผลไม้ เสื้อผ้า สัตว์เลี้ยง ต้นไม้ อาหารปรุง อาหารสำเร็จรูป อาหารสด และเบ็ดเตล็ด
