ในช่วงฤดูแล้ง (เดือนมีนาคม-เมษายน) มีแผนการระบายน้ำประมาณ 20ล้านลูกบาศก์เมตร เพื่อช่วยเหลือการเกษตรในพื้นที่ชลประทานสองฝั่งแม่น้ำนครนายกและประมาณ 40 ล้านลูกบาศก์เมตร เพื่อช่วยบรรเทาปัญหาภัยแล้งรักษาระบบนิเวศน์และผลักดันน้ำเค็มน้ำเสียที่รุกเข้ามาทางแม่น้ำปราจีนบุรีให้ไหลกลับไปแม่น้ำบางปะกงและลงทะเลที่จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา
