อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดขนอม-หมู่เกาะทะเลใ

อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดขนอม-หมู่เกาะทะเลใต้ เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติทางทะเลอยู่ในการดำเนินการ เพื่อประกาศจัดตั้งเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติตามกฎหมาย โดยได้สำรวจและเก็บข้อมูลเบื้องต้นครั้งแรกเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2533 โดยได้กำหนดที่ดินบางส่วนของป่าคลองธง คลองเหรง ป่าเขาออก ป่าเขาท้องโหนด ป่าเขาไชยสน ป่าเลนคลองขนอม เขาฝีหาย ป่าเขาวัง ป่าเขากรด ป่าไชยคราม-วัดประดู่ ป่าเขาหัวช้าง และหมู่เกาะ 8 เกาะ ได้แก่ เกาะมัดแตง เกาะมัดโกง เกาะราบ เกาะหัวตะเข้ เกาะวังนอก เกาะวังใน เกาะน้อย และ เกาะท่าไร่ ในท้องที่อำเภอสิชล อำเภอขนอม จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช ท้องที่อำเภอเกาะสมุย จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี



ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ

สภาพโดยทั่วไปเป็นภูเขามีสภาพป่าที่สมบูรณ์มาก เป็นป่าดิบชื้น จึงเป็นแหล่งต้นน้ำลำธารหลายสาย ซึ่งราษฎรนำน้ำมาใช้ในการอุปโภค-บริโภค และการเกษตรกรรมบางแห่งเป็นภูเขาหินปูน และป่าชายเลน ซึ่งยังคงสภาพที่สมบูรณ์และเป็นหมู่เกาะชายหาด

ลักษณะภูมิอากาศ

เนื่องจากเป็นพื้นที่ติดทะเล จึงได้รับอิทธิพลจากลมมรสุมตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ และลมมรสุมตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ทำให้มีฝนตกเกือบตลอดปี มี 2 ฤดูกาล คือ

1.ฤดูร้อน เริ่มตั้งแต่เดือนกุมภาพันธ์-เมษายน

2. ฤดูฝน เริ่มตั้งแต่เดือนพฤษภาคม-มกราคม

พันธุ์ไม้และสัตว์ป่า

พื้นที่ป่าบก ส่วนใหญ่เป็นป่าดิบชื้น มีไม้ที่มีค่า เช่น ไม้หลุมพอ ตะเคียน ยาง กระท้อน จิกนม และหวายชนิดต่างๆ เป็นต้น พื้นที่ป่าชายเลน เป็นป่าเลนซึ่งบริเวณชายฝั่งที่มีดินเลน มีไม้มีค่า เช่น ไม้โกงกาง แสม ตะบูน โพทะเล เป็นต้น พื้นที่เกาะ สภาพป่าเป็นภูเขาหินปูน มีไม้จำพวกจันผา สลัดได เสมา ขึ้นอยู่ทั่วไป บางเกาะจะมีป่าดิบชื้น ชนิดพันธุ์สัตว์

จากการสำรวจพื้นที่จริง และสอบถามจากราษฎรในท้องถิ่น พบว่ามีสัตว์ป่าอาศัยอยู่หลายชนิด ซึ่งจำแนกเป็นประเภทต่างๆ ดังนี้

สัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม เช่น หมูป่า ลิง ค่าง กระรอก กระแต เลียงผา เก้ง หมีคน เสือ ชะนี (ซึ่งพบบ่อยมากและร้องได้ยินเสียงเกือบทุกวันบริเวณจุดชมวิวดาดฟ้า)
