Heat treatment is an important technique for improving the color and clarity of gemstones. This project presents heat treatment of red spinel from …ประเทศ….. Step-heating experiments were performed under oxidizing atmosphere with different temperatures including 400, 500 and 600oC. The color of samples was changed from brown into blue color after heat treatment performed. The unheated and heated samples were examined UV-Vis NIR, FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and EDXRF spectroscopy. Causes of color and its changing are obviously observed from UV-VIS-NIR absorption spectra and trace elements from EDXRF analysis. The blue color originated from V2+ absorption band which exhibited at ….. nm. Since FTIR spectra of both unheated and heated samples showed same feature absorption spectra, the spectra cannot use for identification of heated gemstone. Raman spectra showed peak shifts which may relate the change of chemical bond in gem’s structure.
