ปัจจุบันแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับเรื่ององค์กรที่มีประสิทธิผลเป็นเรื่องที่มีผู้ศึกษาและมุ่งมั่นที่จะพัฒนาองค์การของตนให้ก้าวไปถึงความเป็นองค์กรที่มีประสิทธิผล แต่บางครั้งความหมายขององค์การที่มีประสิทธิผลของแต่ละองค์การ ยังคงมีความแตกต่างกันตามแต่พิจารณาในด้านของปริมาณ คุณภาพหรือผสมผสานกัน ดังเช่น ความหมายต่อไปนี้
