โค้ชอ๊อตเกิดเมื่อวันที่ 17 กรกฎาคม

โค้ชอ๊อตเกิดเมื่อวันที่ 17 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2509 ที่จังหวัดนครราชสีมา จบปริญญาตรีที่มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ คณะศึกษาศาสตร์ ภาควิชาพลศึกษา เริ่มเล่นวอลเลย์บอลครั้งแรก เมื่ออายุ 14 ปี โดยมีคุณพ่อ คือ ไสว รัชตเกรียงไกร อดีตนักวอลเลย์บอลของนครราชสีมา เป็นคนคอยดูแลอย่างใกล้ชิด และด้วยความที่มีคุณพ่อเป็นนักวอลเลย์บอล จึงทำให้โค้ชอ๊อต เดินตามรอยได้อย่างรวดเร็ว และเริ่มติดทีมชาติชุดใหญ่เมื่ออายุ 17 ปี

จนกระทั่งโค้ชอ๊อต อายุ 19 ปี ก็ได้เป็นหนึ่งใน 12 ขุนพลลุยศึกซีเกมส์ 1985 (พ.ศ. 2528) ที่ประเทศไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพ โดยก่อนหน้าการแข่งขัน โค้ชอ๊อตถูกฝึกอย่างหนัก นอกจากซ้อมตามโปรแกรมแล้ว ยังถูกซ้อมแบบเฉพาะตัวอีกด้วย ซึ่งจุดประสงค์ที่โค้ชอ๊อดถูกซ้อมหนักเช่นนี้ เป็นเพราะต้องการสร้างความแข็งแกร่งให้สามารถรับมือกับศึกใหญ่ได้ และการฝึกซ้อมอย่างหนักครั้งนี้ ก็ถือว่าได้ผล เพราะทีมวอลเลย์บอลชายไทยสามารถคว้าเหรียญทองได้เป็นครั้งแรกในรอบ 26 ปี และเป็นครั้งแรกที่เกียรติพงษ์ รัชตเกรียงไกร ได้รับรางวัลสูงสุดในฐานะผู้เล่นทีมชาติ

หลังจากผ่านซีเกมส์ครั้งนี้มาได้ โค้ชอ๊อตก็ติดทีมวอลเลย์บอลชายมาโดยตลอด สามารถคว้าเหรียญทองซีเกมส์ได้อีก 1 สมัยในปี 1995 (พ.ศ. 2538), เหรียญเงิน 3 สมัย ในปี 1991 (พ.ศ. 2534), 1993 (พ.ศ. 2536) และ 1997 (พ.ศ. 2540) และเหรียญทองแดง 2 สมัย ในปี 1987 (พ.ศ. 2530), 1989 (พ.ศ. 2532) นอกจากนี้ โค้ชอ๊อดยังได้แข่งขันในรายการอื่น ๆ ที่นอกเหนือจากซีเกมส์อีกด้วย อาทิ เอเชียนเกมส์ 1990 (พ.ศ. 2533), 1994 (พ.ศ. 2537) และ 1998 (พ.ศ. 2541) และการปิดฉากชีวิตนักวอลเลย์บอลด้วยการนำทีมชายไปแข่งขันชิงแชมป์โลก ปี 1998 ได้สำเร็จ ในฐานะตัวแทนทวีปเอเชีย

หลังจากนั้น โค้ชอ๊อตก็ได้รับงานผู้ฝึกสอนทีมวอลเลย์บอลหญิงชุดใหญ่ครั้งแรกในปี 2541 พร้อมกับสร้างประวัติศาสตร์พาทีมเข้าไปเล่นรายการเวิลด์แชมเปียนชิพสำเร็จ ก่อนที่จะจบอันดับที่ 15 ต่อมาในปี 2543 โค้ชอ๊อดก็พาทีมไทยไปลุยศึกเวิลด์ กรังด์ปรีซ์ ได้เป็นครั้งแรก และหลังจากนั้นไทยก็เป็นทีมขาประจำที่ได้ลุยศึกเวิลด์ กรังด์ปรีซ์ มาโดยตลอด ยกเว้นปี 2007 (พ.ศ. 2550) เนื่องจากไทยเป็นเจ้าภาพกีฬามหาวิทยาลัยโลก

หลังจากโค้ชอ๊อตได้รับงานคุมทีมชุดใหญ่ ทีมวอลเลย์บอลหญิงไทยก็พัฒนาขึ้นจนประสบความสำเร็จภายในระยะเวลาไม่นาน เพราะหลังจากโค้ชอ๊อดรับงานเพียงแค่ 3 ปี ก็สามารถพาทีมคว้าเหรียญทองแดงรายการชิงแชมป์เอเชียได้ในปี 2001 (พ.ศ. 2544) ต่อด้วยเหรียญทองแดงในปี 2007 ส่วนความสำเร็จระดับสูงสุด โค้ชอ๊อดต้องใช้เวลาถึง 11 ปีในการสานฝันที่เป็นจริง ด้วยการล้มทีมชาติจีนได้ 3-1 เซต ในศึกชิงแชมป์เอเชียเมื่อปี 2009 (พ.ศ. 2552) ที่เวียดนามเป็นเจ้าภาพ คว้าแชมป์เอเชียมาครองได้เป็นครั้งแรกในประวัติศาสตร์ของประเทศไทย

ในปี พ.ศ. 2555 สามารถพาทีมชาติไทยคว้าแชมป์รายการเอเชียน คัพ 2012 ที่ประเทศคาซัคสถานได้ ด้วยการชนะทีมชาติจีน 3-1 เซต และในปีเดียวกันนี้ ทีมวอลเลย์บอลสาวไทยก็สามารถคว้าแชมป์เอเชีย ได้เป็นสมัยที่สอง ในรอบ 4 ปี โดยชนะทีมชาติญี่ปุ่นในรอบชิง 3-0 เซต
