การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการสูบบุหรี่ เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อสูบบุหรี่และ เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมการสูบบุหรี่ของนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 1-3 มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏเชียงราย จำนวนทั้งหมด 13,383 คนโดยใช้การสุ่มตัวอย่างของ ( TaYo Yamana ) ได้กลุ่มตัวอย่างจำนวน 420 คน และสุ่มแบบแบ่งชั้น (Stratified Random Sampling) แยกเป็นคณะและชั้นปี เครื่องมือ ที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถาม สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ยและส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน
ผลการศึกษาข้อมูลทั่วไป พบว่านักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศชาย อายุ 20 ปี เรียนอยู่ชั้นปีที่ 2 ผลการเรียนสะสมอยู่ระหว่าง 2.51-3.00 และส่วนใหญ่อาศัยอยู่ที่หอพักเครือข่าย
ผลการศึกษาพฤติกรรมการสูบบุหรี่พบว่านักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่ไม่สูบบุหรี่รองลงมาคือสูบบุหรี่ และน้อยที่สุดคือ เคยสูบแต่ปัจจุบันเลิกแล้ว ส่วนปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการสูบบุหรี่ แบ่งออกเป็น 2 ด้านคือ ด้านผลิตภัณฑ์และด้านอื่นๆโดยมีตัวเลือกทั้งหมด 5 ตัวเลือกได้แก่ มากที่สุด มาก ปานกลาง น้อย และน้อยที่สุดแล้วได้มีการแบ่งระดับค่าเฉลี่ยออกเป็น 3 ระดับคือ มากที่สุด ปานกลาง และน้อยที่สุดโดยด้านผลิตภัณฑ์พบว่าส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในระดับมากที่สุดคือ บุหรี่มีหลายยี่ห้อ ส่วนปัจจัยด้านอื่นๆ พบว่าอยู่ในระดับปานกลางคือ สูบบุหรี่เพื่อลดความเครียดหรือทำให้มีสมาธิ และปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมการสูบบุหรี่พบว่าบุหรี่ที่ราคาสูงจะมีคุณภาพและรสชาติที่ดีกว่า
