เมื่อพูดถึง "จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี" หลายคนก็คงนึกถึงจังหวัดขนาดใหญ่ ตั้งอยู่ด้านทิศตะวันออกริมสุดของประเทศไทย อีกทั้งยังเป็นสถานที่ชมพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นในตอนเช้าแห่งแรกของประเทศไทยด้วย วันนี้กระปุกท่องเที่ยวเลยมีอีกหนึ่งแหล่งท่องเที่ยวชื่อดังของจังหวัด ที่ถือเป็นแหล่งรวบรวมหลักฐานทางประวัตศาสตร์มากมาย นั่นก็คือ อุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม ถ้าอย่างนั้นเราไปทำความรู้จักกับสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่ว่านี้กันเลยจ้า...


ผาแต้ม

อุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม มีเนื้อที่ครอบคลุมอยู่ในท้องที่อำเภอโขงเจียม อำเภอศรีเมืองใหม่ และอำเภอโพธิ์ไทร จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี และมีพื้นที่ติดกับสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว โดยมีแม่น้ำโขงเป็นเส้นแบ่งพรมแดน มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 140 ตารางกิโลเมตร เป็นที่ราบสูงและเนินเขา มีหน้าผาสูงชันซึ่งเกิดจากการแยกตัวของผิวโลก สภาพป่าโดยทั่วไปเป็นป่าเต็งรัง มีหินทรายลักษณะแปลกตากระจายอยู่ทั่วบริเวณ มีพันธุ์ไม้ดอกที่สวยงามขึ้นอยู่ตามลานหิน ซึ่งที่อุทยานฯ แห่งนี้มีสภาพป่าที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ สัตว์ป่านานาชนิด มีจุดเด่นที่สวยงามตามธรรมชาติมากมาย

ผาแต้ม

ในอดีตชาวบ้านท้องถิ่นที่ทำกินในบริเวณใกล้เคียงพื้นที่ป่าภูผา น้อยคนนักที่จะเดินทางเข้าไปในป่าดังกล่าว เนื่องจากมีความเชื่อว่า "ผาแต้ม" เป็นเขตต้องห้าม ภูผาเหล่านี้มีความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ เชื่อกันว่าเป็นภูผาแห่งความตาย ใครล่วงล้ำเข้าไป มักมีอันเป็นไป อาจเจ็บไข้หรือเป็นอันตรายถึงชีวิตได้ หลังจากนั้นไม่นาน ผาแต้ม ก็มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังเมื่อคณะอาจารย์และนักศึกษาภาควิชามานุษยวิทยา มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร มีการค้นพบภาพเขียนสีโบราณสมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ อายุราว 3,000-4,000 ปี ได้มาทำการสำรวจและค้นพบภาพเขียนสีโบราณสมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ที่ผาแต้ม และได้เสนอต่อกองอุทยานแห่งชาติ กรมป่าไม้ ขอให้จัดตั้งป่าภูผาในบริเวณผาแต้มเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติ โดยได้รับการประกาศให้เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้มเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติลำดับที่ 74 ของประเทศไทย และถือได้ว่าเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติแห่งแรกในประเทศไทยที่มีแม่น้ำโขง ซึ่งเราสามารถมองเห็นวิวทิวทัศน์ของชายแดนประเทศลาวได้เป็นอย่างดี

ทาง ด้านลักษณะภูมิประเทศ อุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม มีสภาพพื้นที่เป็นเทือกเขาติดต่อกันลักษณะสูง ๆ ต่ำ ๆ สลับกันไปทั่วพื้นที่ ระดับความสูงของพื้นที่อยู่ระหว่าง 100-600 เมตร จากระดับน้ำทะเล มีภูผาที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ ภูผาขาม, ภูผาเมย, ภูผาเจ็ก, ภูผาสร้อย, ภูย่าแพะ, ภูชะนะได, ภูผานาทาม, ภูโลง, ภูปัง, ภูจันทร์แดง, ภูหลวง, ภูสมุย และภูกระบอ เป็นต้น อีกทั้งยังเป็นแหล่งต้นน้ำลำธารน้อยใหญ่ ขณะที่สภาพป่าโดยทั่วไปเป็นป่าเต็งรังเสียส่วนใหญ่ ตามพื้นที่มีหินโผล่ ลักษณะเป็นป่าโปร่งต้นไม้แคระแกร็น แต่มีความสวยงามตามธรรมชาติ รวมทั้งมีพันธุ์ไม้ที่สำคัญนานาชนิด พืชพื้นล่างเป็นพวกไผ่ป่า หญ้าต่าง ๆ ข่อยหิน และยังมีไม้ดอกที่สวยงามขึ้นอยู่ตามซอกลานหินทั่วไปอีกด้วย

สำหรับภายใน อุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม จะแบ่งพื้นที่ท่องเที่ยว คือ ผาแต้ม เป็นจุดท่องเที่ยวหลักของอุทยานฯ ซึ่งได้รับความนิยม สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวในย่านผาแต้ม รวมเอาพื้นที่บริเวณที่ทำการอุทยานฯ ศูนย์บริการนักท่องเที่ยว บ้านพัก และลานกางเต็นท์และพื้นที่ใกล้เคียง ซึ่งบริเวณ ผาแต้ม บริเวณด้านล่างของหน้าผามีภาพเขียนสีก่อนประวัติศาสตร์ปรากฏเรียงรายอยู่ มีอายุไม่ต่ำกว่าสามพันถึงสี่พันปี เป็นภาพเขียนสีที่ยาวที่สุดในประเทศไทย และทางอุทยานฯ ได้ทำทางเดินจากหน้าผาด้านบนลงไปชมภาพเขียนสีเหล่านี้ แบ่งเป็น 4 ประเภท คือ สัตว์ เครื่องมือเครื่องใช้ สัญลักษณ์ และคน แบ่งเป็น 4 กลุ่ม ดังนี้...

ผาแต้ม อุบลราชธานี

1. กลุ่มภาพเขียนสีผาขาม มีทางเดินลงมาจากลานผาแต้มประมาณ 30 เมตร จากนั้นเป็นทางราบริมหน้าผาเดินไปอีก 400 เมตรจึงจะถึง ภาพค่อนข้างลบเลือนไปมากแล้ว เหลือเพียงร่องรอยคล้ายภาพก้างปลาและลายเส้นทึบหยักไปมาคล้ายคลื่นน้ำ

3. กลุ่มภาพเขียนสีผาหมอน มีภาพกลุ่มสัตว์ วัว ควาย ภาพคนถืออาวุธคล้ายธนู อยู่ในทุ่งหญ้าหรือนาข้าว ภาพมือ และภาพลวดลายเรขาคณิต สะท้อนถึงการเป็นแหล่งชุมชนเกษตรกรรมเพาะปลูกข้าวเก่าแก่ของโลก

4. กลุ่มภาพเขียนสีผาหมอนน้อย มีภาพคนนุ่งกระโปรง ยืนเท้าเอว ลักษณะการวาดแบบกิ่งไม้ภาพสัญลักษณ์ ลวดลายเรขาคณิต และภาพฝ่ามือกระจายอยู่ทั่วไป
