5. เขตการค้าเสรีอาเซียน หรือ อาฟตา

5. เขตการค้าเสรีอาเซียน หรือ อาฟตา (AFTA) เกิดจากการประชุมผู้นำอาเซียน ประชุมหารือเพื่อให้อาเซียนแข่งขันกับประเทศอื่นได้ โดยไทยมีนายอานันท์ ปันยารชุน เป็นนายกรัฐมนตรีไทยในขณะนั้น ได้ประกาศเจตนารมณ์และโน้มน้าวให้ประเทศต่างๆร่วมมือกันจัดตั้งเขตการค้าเสรีอาเซียนขึ้น โดยจัดตั้ง AFTA ในปี พ.ศ.2535 มี สมาชิก 10 ประเทศ (สมาชิกอาเซียน)

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อส่งเสริมให้การค้าในอาเซียนมีการขยายตัวมากขึ้นและมีความเป็นเสรีและดึงดูดให้ประเทศอื่นนอกภูมิภาคเข้ามาลงทุนในกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนมากขึ้น

บทบาทหน้าที่ เจรจาและหารือกันเพื่อกำหนดข้อตกลงเกี่ยวกับการค้าเสรีในภูมิภาคอาเซียนเพื่อพัฒนาคุณภาพและปริมาณของการผลิตสินค้าของประเทศสมาชิกให้สามารถแข่งขันกับตลาดโลกได้

ประโยชน์ที่ไทยได้รับ ไทยส่งสินค้าออกได้มากขึ้นทั้งด้านชนิดและปริมาณ รวมถึงกลายเป็นจุดดึงดูดการลงทุนจากนักลงทุนต่างประเทศ
