• เพื่อสักการะพระบรมอัฐิธาตุของพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า
• เพื่อเป็นการบูชาเสาหลักเมือง ทั้งนี้เพราะประชาชนลำพูนถือว่าเจดีย์พระบรมธาตุหริภุญชัยเป็นเสาหลักเมืองทำพิธีสรงน้ำพระบรมธาตุหริภุญชัยจึงได้ทำบุญเสาหลักเมืองลำพูนด้วย
