การลดเวลาเรียนของเด็กให้น้อยลง โดยให้สำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน (สพฐ.) ไปพิจารณาปรับลดชั่วโมงเรียนของบางวิชาให้น้อยลง เพื่อต้องการให้เด็กผ่อนคลาย ไม่เครียดในการเรียนมากเกินไปหรือต้องหอบการบ้านไปทำต่อที่บ้าน ซึ่งจะช่วยให้เด็กมีเวลาที่จะอยู่กับพ่อแม่มากขึ้น หรือมีเวลาว่างเรียนรู้ตามวัย คิดบ้างทดลองปฏิบัติบ้าง ไม่ใช่ท่องตำราอย่างเดียว โดยอาจจะเลิกเรียนในชั้นเรียนเวลาประมาณ 14.00 น. ส่วนเวลาที่เหลือให้ สพฐ.ไปพิจารณารายละเอียดและกิจกรรมว่าควรดำเนินการอย่างไรกับเด็ก 2 กลุ่ม คือกลุ่มที่จะเดินทางกลับบ้าน หรือกลุ่มซึ่งรอกลับบ้านพร้อมผู้ปกครองหลังเลิกงาน
ทั้งนี้ สพฐ.จะนำร่องโรงเรียนในสังกัดประมาณร้อยละ 10 จากทั้งหมด 38,000 โรงเรียนก่อน เริ่มต้นได้ทันทีในช่วงเปิดภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2558 ดังนั้นจึงขอให้ สพฐ.จัดระบบนิเทศและเตรียมการให้ดีในช่วงปิดภาคเรียนนี้ รวมทั้งสร้างความเข้าใจร่วมกันกับโรงเรียน นักเรียน ครู ผู้ปกครองในการดำเนินการด้วย
