โรงเรียนวังไกลกังวล อำเภอหัวหิน จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ ตั้งขึ้นโดยพระบรมราชานุญาตในพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวอานันทมหิดล เมื่อวันที่ ๒๒ มิถุนายน พ.ศ. ๒๔๘๑ เพื่อให้การศึกษาแก่บุตรหลานของเจ้าหน้าที่ผู้รักษาวังไกลกังวล เปิดสอนชั้นเด็กเล็กไปจนถึงชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ ๖ และเปิดสอนหลักสูตรวิชาระยะสั้นเพิ่มเติมด้วย และต่อมาได้อยู่ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ของพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช โดยในปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๙๗ ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ พระราชทานอาคารที่พักกองรักษาการณ์วังไกลกังวลให้เป็นอาคารเรียนแทนอาคารไม้เก่าที่ชำรุดทรุดโทรม ต่อมาก็ได้สร้างเป็นอาคารเรียนเพิ่มขึ้นบริหารโดย "คณะกรรมการบริหารโรงเรียนวังไกลกังวล" ประกอบด้วยผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิทางด้านการบริหารโรงเรียนและทางวิชาการจากกระทรวงศึกษาธิการและฝ่ายสำนักพระราชวัง ปัจจุบันเปิดสอนถึงระดับสารพัดช่าง วิชาชีพระยะสั้น และประกาศนียบัตรวิชาชีพช่างฝีมือ มีจำนวนถึง ๑๗ แผนกวิชา อันเป็นการสนองโครงการตามพระราชดำริเกี่ยวกับศิลปาชีพพิเศษ และเป็นที่ฝึกงานในชั่วโมงเรียนวิชาการวางพื้นฐานอาชีพด้วย และเนื่องในโอกาสปีฉลองสิริราชสมบัติครบ ๕๐ ปี โรงเรียนวังไกลกังวลยังเป็นศูนย์กลางการศึกษาทางไกลผ่านดาวเทียมเพื่อออกอากาศการเรียนการสอนและรายการทางการศึกษาของโรงเรียนต่าง ๆ ของกรมสามัญศึกษาทั่วประเทศให้ครบ ๒,๕๐๐โรงเรียนภายในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๔ เนื่องจากโรงเรียนวังไกลกังวลเก็บค่าเล่าเรียนในอัตราต่ำ รายได้ของโรงเรียนไม่พอกับรายจ่ายต้องขอพระราชทานเงินพระราชกุศลเพิ่มขึ้นตามจำนวนครูและนักเรียน ปัจจุบันโรงเรียนวังไกลกังวล ได้รับพระราชทานเงินเพื่อใช้ในการดำเนินงานจากงบเงินใช้สอยตามพระราชอัธยาศัยปีละ ๑ ล้าน ๒ แสนบาท มากที่สุดในบรรดาโรงเรียนในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ทั้งหมด
