วัดปรมัยยิกาวาสเป็นวัดโบราณ น่าจะสร้างหลังจากพระเจ้าท้ายสระโปรดให้ขุดคลอง เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2264 ชาวเรือเรียก วัดปากอ่าว จนปี พ.ศ. 2307 พม่าบุกยึดเมืองนนทบุรี กลายเป็นวัดร้างเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2317 ชาวมอญที่อพยพมาในรัชสมัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชได้บูรณปฏิสังขรณ์ใหม่ คนมอญเรียกว่า "เภี่ยมู้เกี้ยเติ้ง"
สิ่งสำคัญภายในวัดมีพระอุโบสถที่มีภาพจิตรกรรมฝาผนังแบบไทยประยุกต์ บานประตูหน้าต่างประดับ ลายปูนปั้นเขียนด้วยสี กำแพงแก้วรอบพระอุโบสถมีลวดลายที่สวยงาม เป็นกำแพงเหล็กอย่างดีทำมาจากยุโรป อีกทั้งด้านหลังพระอุโบสถมีพระเจดีย์รูปทรงแบบมอญ
