นายดิเรก ลาวัณย์ศิริ ประธานกรรมการกำกับกิจการพลังงาน (กกพ) เปิดเผยว่า กกพ.ประกาศขึ้นค่าไฟฟ้าผันแปรอัตโนมัติ(เอฟที)ประจำเดือนมกราคม-เมษายน 2557 อีก 5 สตางค์ต่อหน่วยจากเดิมอยู่ที่ 54 สตางค์ต่อหน่วย ทำให้ค่าเอฟทีที่ประชาชนต้องจ่ายจริงในงวดนี้เป็น 59 สตางค์ต่อหน่วย และเมื่อรวมกับค่าไฟฟ้าฐานอีก 3.27 บาทต่อหน่วย ทำให้ค่าไฟฟ้าประจำเดือน ม.ค.- เม.ย. 2557 ปรับขึ้นมาอยู่ที่ 3.82 บาทต่อหน่วย
สำหรับปัจจัยที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อค่าเอฟทีในงวดนี้ให้ปรับขึ้นมาจาก ปัญหาเงินบาทอ่อนค่าเป็นหลัก โดยเงินบาทอ่อนค่าลง 0.97 บาทต่อดอลล่าร์สหรัฐ มาอยู่ที่ 32.24 บาทต่อดอลลาร์สหรัฐ เมื่อเทียบกับค่าเอฟทีงวดเดือน ก.ย.-ธ.ค. 2556 ที่ผ่านมา
ประกอบกับต้องเตรียมรองรับสถานการณ์ก๊าซธรรมชาติของประเทศเมียนมาร์ที่จะหยุดจ่ายก๊าซฯให้โรงไฟฟ้าไทยตั้งแต่วันที่ 31 ธันวาคม-14 มกราคม 2557 และการหยุดจ่ายก๊าซฯจากแหล่งบงกชในอ่าวไทยช่วงเดือนเมษายน2557 จึงมีความจำเป็นต้องเพิ่มการผลิตไฟฟ้าจากโรงไฟฟ้าถ่านหิน น้ำมันเตา น้ำมันดีเซลอย่างเต็มที่ เพื่อรักษาความมั่นคงของระบบไฟฟ้าในภาคกลางละภาค
