ในกรณีที่มีผลเลือดเป็นลบ หมายถึงบุคคลนั้นยังไม่ได้รับเชื้อเอชไอวี หรือบุคคลนั้นอาจมีเชื้อเอชไอวีอยู่ในร่างกายแล้ว แต่ยังตรวจไม่พบ เพราะอาจยังรับเชื้อมาไม่ถึง 6 สัปดาห์
