มาสโลว์ (Dr. Abraham H. ทฤษฎีแห่งการจูงใจของ Maslow กล่าวถึง ความต้องการ (Need) ของมนุษย์ โดยมีสมมุติฐาน กล่าวถึงความสำคัญเกี่ยวกับพฤติกรรมของมนุษย์ดังนี้ (กาญจนา เรืองรจิตปกรณ์, 2530 : 227)
1. ความต้องการจำเป็นทางร่างกาย (Physiological Needs) สามารถแยกออกเป็นประเภทหนึ่งต่างหาก เป็นเอกเทศ จากการจูงใจประเภทอื่นๆ ได้เพราะเป็นความต้องการพื้นฐานที่ทุกคนต้องการเหมือนกัน
2. ความต้องการจำเป็น (Need) ทางกายเป็นความต้องการหลักของทุกคน
3. ความต้องการ (Needs) อย่างอื่นๆ จะอันตรธานไป ตราบใดที่ความต้องการมนุษย์ทางกายยังไม่ได้รับการตอบสนองตามความพอใจ เพราะยังถูกครอบงำด้วยความจำเป็นทางสรีระอยู่
