การที่รัฐบาลในยุคปัจจุบันรวมถึงกระแสของโลกที่กาลังให้ความสำคัญต่อการก้าวเข้าสู่ยุคเศรษฐกิจดิจิทัล สรอ. จึงเล็งเห็นถึงความสำคัญในเรื่องดังกล่าว และมีแผนจัดตั้ง Digital Government Academy เพื่อเป็นการยกระดับการให้บริการทางวิชาการและการอบรมหลักสูตรต่างๆ และสามารถขยายผลและสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจและเสริมศักยภาพบุคลากรภาครัฐด้าน ICT ทุกระดับ รวมถึงเพื่อเพิ่มความสะดวกให้กับบุคลากรภาครัฐในการเข้าถึงการเรียนการสอนหลักสูตรต่างๆผ่านเครื่องมือและช่องทางต่างๆในยุคดิจิทัล เพื่อที่บุคลากรด้าน ICT ของภาครัฐไทยจะสามารถก้าวเข้าสู่ยุคเศรษฐกิจดิจิทัลอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและรู้เท่าทัน และก้าวเข้าสู่ยุคของรัฐบาลดิจิทัลได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรมและสามารถยกระดับการบริการสู่ประชาชนได้อย่างทั่วถึงและมีประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น
