พระสงฆ์ฉันน้ำชามาแต่โบราณ จึงมีประเพณีถวายน้ำชาพระสืบต่อกันมาจนทุกวันนี้ มีหมายรับสั่งสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 เมื่อมีพิธีสงฆ์ในงานหลวงปรากฏเป็นหลักฐานว่า "ให้แต่งน้ำชาถวายสงฆ์ทั้ง 4 เวลา…ให้หัวป่าก์พ่อครัวรับ เครื่องชา ต่อวิเสทหมากพลู ต้มถวายพระสงฆ์ให้พอ 8 คืน"

ญี่ปุ่นเองก็มีพิธีชงชาแบบชาโนยุ แต่เดิมเป็นพิธีทางศาสนาของนิกายเซน ปัจจุบันมีการฝึกหัดชงชาเพื่อรักษาไว้ซึ่งขนบธรรมเนียมของคนญี่ปุ่น


ร้านน้ำชา

นอกจากนี้ แถบย่านชุมชนจีนก็มีก๊วนน้ำชาที่เยาวราช และสำเพ็งอีกหลายแห่ง
