วิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีแหลมฉบังเป็นโรงเรียนอาชีวศึกษาสังกัดสำนักบริหารงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาเอกชนกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ได้รับอนุญาตให้เปิด ทำการสอนเมื่อวันที่ 1 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2538 เดิมใช้ชื่อว่า “โรงเรียนเทคโนโลยีศรีราชาช่างอุตสาหกรรม” โดยมีนายล้วน บุญจิตสิทธิ์ศักดิ์ เป็นผู้รับใบอนุญาตเปิดทำการสอนตาม หลักสูตรประกาศนียบัตรวิชาชีพ (ปวช.) ในประเภทวิชาช่างอุตสาหกรรม สาขาวิชาไฟฟ้าและอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ สาขางานไฟฟ้ากำลัง สาขางานอิเล็กทรอนิกส์ สาขาวิชาเครื่องกล สาขางานยานยนต์ ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.2539 โรงเรียนได้มีการเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น “โรงเรียนเทคโนโลยีแหลมฉบัง” และเปลี่ยนผู้รับใบอนุญาตเป็น ดร.ยงลักษณ์ บุญจี๊ด ในปี พ.ศ. 2542 และมีการจัดหลักสูตรเพิ่มเติมขึ้น เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของตลาดแรงงานในท้องถิ่น ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้เปิดทำการสอนตามหลักสูตร
