รูปแบบเว็บไซต์เพลง
ในการทำวิจัยครั้งนี้ ได้มีการออกแบบเว็บไซต์หนึ่งขึ้นมาใหม่ โดยประกอบด้วย 1) หน้าล็อกอิน 2) หน้าคำแนะนำที่แสดงภารกิจที่ผู้รับการทดลองทำสำเร็จแล้วและภารกิจที่ยังทำได้ทำ 3) คำถามข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล 4) แบบทดสอบก่อนเรียน และแบบทดสอบหลังเรียน และ 5) แบบเรียนพัฒนาภาษา 4 ชุด
รูปแบบงานวิจัย
งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้ได้ใช้วิธีการทดลองโดยการสุ่มตัวอย่าง เงื่อนไขการทดลอง (experimental conditions) (หรือแบบเรียนพัฒนาภาษา) 4 เงื่อนไข ได้แก่
1) เพลงอย่างเดียว (S: song only)
2) เพลง + เนื้อเพลง (SL: song plus lyrics)
3) เพลง + เนื้อเพลง + ความหมายของคำศัพท์ที่ถูกเลือก (SLD: song plus lyrics plus definitions of selected vocabulary words)
4) เพลง + เนื้อเพลง + ความหมายของคำศัพท์ที่ถูกเลือก + เสียงอธิบายเพลง (SLD: song plus lyrics plus definitions of selected vocabulary words plus audio explanation of the song)
โดยลำดับข้างต้นไล่เรียงจากจากปริมาณการใช้ตัวช่วยเสริม (extralingual support) จากไม่ใช้ไปจนถึงใช้มากที่สุด
เพลงที่จะใช้ในการวิจัยนี้ มีเนื้อหาหรือการบ่งบอกถึงประเพณีวัฒนธรรมของชาวอเมริกัน รวมถึงมีความหลากหลายในสไตล์ โดยใช้ทั้งหมด 6 เพลงด้วยกัน ได้แก่

ขั้นตอนการทดลอง
กิจกรรมก่อนเริ่มทำแบบเรียน (pre-treatment activities)
