วนอุทยานภูเขาไฟกระโดง ตั้งอยู่ที่บ้านน้ำซับ ตำบลเสม็ด อำเภอเมืองบุรีรัมย์ จังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ เป็นภูเขาไฟที่ดับสนิทแล้ว มีร่องรอยปากปล่องเห็นได้ชัดเจน รอบบริเวณปกคลุมด้วยป่าไม้ที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ เป็นแหล่งอาศัยของสัตว์ป่าขนาดเล็ก โดยเฉพาะนกนานาชนิด บนเขากระโดงยังมีโบราณสถานสมัยขอม รอยพระพุทธบาทจำลอง และพระพุทธรูปขนาดใหญ่ เป็นที่เคารพสักการะของคนในในจังหวัดบุรีรัมย์และประชาชนใกล้เคียว นักท่องเที่ยวนิยมขึ้นไปชมทิวทัศน์ของตัวเมืองบุรีรัมย์ และไหว้พระเพื่อเป็นสิริมงคล เดิมที่ชาวบ้านเรียกเขากระโดงว่า “พนมกระดอง” เป็นภาษาเขมรแปลว่า “ภูเขากระดอง” เพราะมีลักษณะคล้ายกระดองเต่า ชาวบ้านจึงเรียกเพี้ยนเป็นกระโดง แต่เดิมพื้นที่บริเวณนี้เป็นที่ดินสาธารณะประโยชน์ชื่อทำเลเลี้ยงสัตว์โคกเขากระโดง ต่อมา จังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ได้เสนอกรมป่าไม้ ให้จัดตั้งเขากระโดงเป็นวนอุทยานเมื่อวันที่ 22 มีนาคม 2521 หลังจากนั้นกระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ กำหนดให้เขากระโดงเป็นเขตห้ามล่าสัตว์ป่า ตามประกาศลงวันที่ 14 สิงหาคม 2523 เนื้อที่ 1,450 ไร่ และได้เปลี่ยนชื่อจาก “วนอุทยานเขากระโดง” เป็น “วนอุทยานภูเขาไฟกระโดง” ตามประกาศกรมอุทยานแห่งชาติ สัตว์ป่า และพันธุ์พืช ลงวันที่ 4 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553 เพื่อส่งเสริมภาพลักษณ์และประชาสัมพันธ์การท่องเที่ยวของจังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ ปัจจุบันวนอุทยานภูเขาไฟกระโดงอยู่ในความรับผิดชอบของส่วนอุทยานแห่งชาติ สังกัดสำนักบริหารพื้นที่อนุรักษ์ที่ 7 (นครราชสีมา) กรมอุทยานแห่งชาติ กระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม
