เมื่อวันที่ 11 มกราคม นายประเสริฐ ธำรงวิศว ผู้อำนวยการเขื่อนวชิราลงกรณ (อขว.) เปิดเผยว่า เมื่อเวลา 08.57 น. ของวันที่ 11 มกราคม 2558 ตามเวลาในประเทศไทย ได้เกิดเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวบริเวณ ต.สหกรณ์บนิคม อ.ทองผาภูมิ จ.กาญจนบุรี มีขนาด 3.1 ริกเตอร์ มีจุดศูนย์กลางแผ่นดินไหว อยู่ที่ละติจูด 14.77 องศา และลองจิจูด 98.81 องศา ความลึกจากผิวดิน 2 กิโลเมตร ห่างจากเขื่อนวชิราลงกรณ ไปทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ 22.82 กิโลเมตร และห่างจากเขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ ไปทางทิศตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือ 52.79 กิโลเมตร เป็นแผ่นดินไหวขนาดเล็ก ไม่สามารถรับความรู้สึกได้
