ปัจจุบันแรดจัดเป็นสัตว์ป่าสงวนชนิดหนึ่งใน ๑๕ ชนิดของประเทศไทย และจัดอยู่ใน Appendix 1 ของอนุสัญญา CITES ทั้งยังเป็นสัตว์ป่าที่ใกล้จะสูญพันธุ์ตาม U.S.Endanger Species
