อินทนิลน้ํา เป็นพันธุ์ไม้ที่มีถิ่นกำเนิดในประเทศไทย โดยมักพบขึ้นตามที่ราบลุ่มที่ชื้นแฉะทั่วไป รวมไปถึงบริเวณริมฝั่งแม่น้ำลำห้วย หรือในป่าเบญจพรรณชื้นและป่าดงดิบของภาคเหนือ ภาคกลาง ภาคตะวันออก ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ และภาคใต้ แต่จะพบได้มากสุดตามป่าดงดิบในทางภาคใต้ และยังพบในป่าพรุหรือป่าบึงในของภาคใต้อีกด้วย
