ประวัติ เป็นโครงการเฉลิมพระเกียรติพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัย ของมูลนิธิพระบรมราชานุสรณ์พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัยในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ เพื่อเป็นการสนองพระมหากรุณาธิคุณที่ได้พระราชทานศิลปะอันงดงามไว้เป็นมรดกแก่ชาติและได้รับการยกย่องจากองค์การศึกษาวิทยาศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรมแห่งสหประชาชาติ (UNESCO) โดยสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารีเสด็จพระราชดำเนินมาเปิดป้ายอุทยานเมื่อวันที่ 31 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2522
