การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์หลักเพื่อการศึกษาและอธิบายถึงกฎหมายการซื้อขายสินค้าระหว่างประเทศและอนุสัญญาว่าด้วยการซื้อขายสินค้าระหว่างประเทศ โดยอนุสัญญานี้จัดเป็นสนธิสัญญา (treaty) ที่ก่อตั้งกฎหมายซื้อขายระหว่างประเทศเอกภาพ (uniform international sales law) โดยพบว่า CISG มีความสำคัญอย่างมากทั้งนี้ เพราะ ๗๙ ประเทศที่ยอมรับอนุสัญญานี้ หมายถึงประเทศที่มีบทบาทที่สำคัญในการค้าโลก CISG ยอมรับให้ผู้ส่งออกสินค้าหลีกเลี่ยงปัญหาการขัดกันแห่งกฎหมายอันนำไปสู่การเลือกกฎหมาย โดยการเสนอกฎเกณฑ์สาระบัญญัติที่ยอมรับกันได้เข้ามาเป็นกฎหมายที่มีผลต่อสัญญาซื้อขายแทนที่กฎเกณฑ์แห่งกฎหมายขัดกันซึ่งซับซ้อนและยุ่งยาก โดยกฎหมายสารบัญญัติเอกภาพว่าด้วยสัญญาซื้อขายระหว่างประเทศภายใต้ CISG การค้าระหว่างประเทศย่อมมีความคล่องตัวมากกว่า จึงเป็นธรรมดาที่ CISG จะได้รับการต้อนรับอย่างมากโดยรัฐที่เปิดตลาดการค้าสู่ประชาคมระหว่างประเทศ แม้กฎหมายขัดกันจะนำไปสู่ความแน่นอนทางกฎหมายได้ระดับหนึ่ง แต่ความซับซ้อนของกลไกการเลือกกฎหมายก็เป็นอุปสรรคอย่างยิ่งต่อการซื้อขายระหว่างประเทศ
