ธรรมบท...เรื่องนางยักษ์ชื่อกาลี

พระพุทธเจ้า ตรัสพระคาถานี้แก่นางยักษ์ชื่อกาลีและหญิงคนหนึ่ง ดังนี้


พระพุทธเจ้า ตรัสพระคาถาภาษิตว่า...
“เพราะว่าในกาลไหนๆ เวรทั้งหลายในโลกนี้
ย่อมไม่สงบระงับด้วยเวร
แต่เวรทั้งหลายย่อมสงบระงับด้วยการไม่จองเวร”


เรื่องนี้เป็นเรื่องการจองเวรแบบข้ามภพข้ามชาติมาหลายชาติโดยเริ่มจาก
ชาติแรก
สามีและภรรยาคู่หนึ่ง ภรรยาไม่มีลูกให้สามีไว้สืบสกุล

จนกระทั่งลูกคนที่ ๓ เมื่อนางคลอดลูกแล้ว นางยักษิณีก็ไล่ล่าตามจะจับกินอีก


นางกุลธิดา หอบลูกน้อยวิ่งหนี
นางระลึกถึงพระพุทธเจ้าได้ มีเพียงพระพุทธองค์เท่านั้นที่จะช่วยเหลือได้
จึงหนีมุ่งเข้าไปสู่มหาวิหาร ซึ่งพระศาสดากำลังทรงแสดงธรรมอยู่
นางกุลธิดาวางบุตรนอนลงเคียงหลังพระบาท แล้วกราบลูกว่า
“บุตรคนนี้ ข้าพระองค์ถวายแด่พระองค์แล้ว
ขอพระองค์ประทานชีวิตแก่บุตรข้าพระองค์เถิด”




ข้างฝ่ายนางยักษ์ ตามมาแต่ไม่สามารถเข้ามหาวิหารได้

จบพระคาถา นางยักษิณีนั้น ตั้งอยู่ในพระโสดาปัตติผลแล้ว
นางยักษ์จึงไม่ทำอันตรายบุตรของนางกุลธิดา
และเมื่อตั้งอยู่ในพระโสดาปัตติผลแล้ว ย่อมไม่ฆ่าสัตว์กินเป็นอาหาร
พระบรมศาสดา จึงให้นางกุลธิดา เลี้ยงดูแลนางยักษิณี ต่อไป


ซึ่งในกาลนั้น นางยักษิณีก็ได้ตอบแทนคุณให้แก่นางกุลธิดา
โดยพยากรณ์ฝนมากฝนน้อยให้เพื่อการทำนาของนางกุลธิดา
จะได้เจริญงอกงามไม่เสียหาย
จนนางกุลธิดา มีข้าวกล้าสมบูรณ์เต็มไปหมด ข้าวไม่เสียหาย
ชาวบ้านมาสอบถาม นางกุลธิดาจึงแนะให้ชาวเมืองเหล่านั้นไปดูแลเลี้ยงนางยักษ์บ้าง
ดังนั้นชาวเมืองจึงพากันทำสักการะแก่นางยักษ์
ซึ่งนางยักษ์ก็ใจดี ดูแลช่วยชาวเมืองเป็นอันดี
ในกาลต่อมา นางยักษ์นั้นเริ่มตั้งสลากภัต
ซึ่งนับเป็นประเพณีที่ชาวพุทธ ก็ยังถวายอยู่จนถึงปัจจุบันนี้


“เวรย่อมระงับด้วยการไม่จองเวร”
