การฟ้อนภูไทเรณูนคร เป็นการฟ้อนประเพ

การฟ้อนภูไทเรณูนคร เป็นการฟ้อนประเพณีที่มีมาแต่บรรพบุรุษ ที่สร้างบ้านแปลงเมือง การฟ้อนภูไทนี้ถือว่าเป็นศิลปะเอกลักษณ์ทางด้านวัฒนธรรม ประจำเผ่าของภูไทเรณูนคร ถือว่าฟ้อนภูไทเป็นการฟ้อนที่เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของจังหวัดนครพนม  

ในคราวที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวและสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าพระบรมราชินีนาถ ได้เสด็จมานมัสการพระธาตุพนมในปี พ.ศ. 2498 นั้น นายสง่า จันทรสาขา ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนครพนมในสมัยนั้น ได้จัดให้มีการฟ้อนผู้ไทถวาย นายคำนึง อินทร์ติยะ ศึกษาธิการอำเภอเรณูนคร ได้อำนวยการปรับปรุงท่าฟ้อนผู้ไทให้สวยงามกว่าเดิม โดยเชิญผู้สูงอายุที่มีประสบการณ์ในการฟ้อนผู้ไทมาให้คำแนะนำ จนกลายเป็นท่าฟ้อนแบบแผนของชาวเรณูนคร และได้ถ่ายทอดให้แก่ลูกหลานสืบทอดต่อจนปัจจุบัน

ปัจจุบัน กระทรวงศึกษาธิการได้บรรจุวิชา การฟ้อนภูไทเรณูนคร เข้าไว้ในหลักสูตร ให้นักเรียนทั้งชั้นประถมศึกษาและมัธยมศึกษา ได้ฝึกฝนเล่าเรียนกันโดยเฉพาะนักเรียนที่เล่าเรียนอยู่ในสถานศึกษาภายในเขตอำเภอเรณูนคร จังหวัดนครพนม จะฟ้อนรำประเพณี  “ฟ้อนภูไทเรณูนคร” เป็นทุกคน
