กลุ่มตัวอย่างได้จากการคำนวณ power analysis15 โดย
กําหนด power ที่ระดับ .80 มีค่า effect size ขนาดปาน
กลาง (f = .30) ค่าความเชื่อมั่น 95% และ p < .05 ได้
จํานวนมารดาและทารกในระยะแรกคลอดเท่ากับ 68 คู่
โดยมีเกณฑ์การคัดเลือกด้านมารดา คือ มีอายุระหว่าง 18-35 ปี
ตั้งครรภ์ครบกำหนด (37-42 สัปดาห์) ปากมดลูกเปิด £ 3
เซนติเมตร เป็นการคลอดปกติครั้งแรก มีเต้านมและหัวนม
ปกติ ทั้ง 2 ข้าง ไม่ได้รับยาระงับปวดใดๆ และไม่มีภาวะ
แทรกซ้อนใดๆ ในระยะตั้งครรภ์ ระยะคลอด และระยะ
หลังคลอด สามารถเข้าใจ อ่านและเขียนภาษาไทยได้ส่วน
เกณฑ์การคัดเลือกด้านทารกคือ มีน้ำหนักแรกเกิด³
2,005 กรัม แต่ไม่เกิน 4,000 กรัม Apgar score ในนาที
