หมายถึง ความเชื่อในสิ่งที่ควรเชื่อ ไม่งมงายไร้เหตุผล เป็นความเชื่อที่ประกอบด้วยปัญญา ศรัทธาที่มั่นคง หมายถึง ศรัทธาที่มีความรู้กำกับ ไม่หวั่นไหวเอนเอียงไปเพราะความไม่รู้ ความหลงงมงาย ซึ่งนักวิชาการและผู้รู้ได้ให้ความหมายของความเชื่อไว้ในแง่มุมต่างๆ ดังนี้
คณะกรรมการจัดทำพจนานุกรมศัพท์ศาสนาสากล แห่งราชบัณฑิตยสถาน 2536 ได้บัญญัติคำว่า ความศรัทธา หมายถึง ความเชื่อ ความเลื่อมใส โดยทั่ว ๆ ไปแบ่งได้เป็น 3 ประเภท คือ
1. ศรัทธาโดยไม่ต้องใช้ปัญญาแสวงหาความจริง

2. ศรัทธาโดยใช้ปัญญาแสวงหาความจริงไปพร้อม ๆ กัน

3. ศรัทธาต่อเมื่อมีประสบการณ์ด้วยตนเองจริง ๆ แล้ว
