ธงชาติพม่า ได้แบ่งตามความยาวออกเป็น 3 ส่วน และมีความกว้างเท่า ๆ กัน โดยแต่ละส่วน มีสีที่แตกต่างกัน ไล่จากบนลงล่าง คือ สีเหลือง สีเขียว และสีแดง ขณะที่กึ่งกลางธงมีรูปดาว 5 แฉก สีขาวขนาดใหญ่ ซึ่งสี และสัญลักษณ์ ต่างๆ มีความหมาย ดังนี้
