หลังการปฏิวัติอุตสาหกรรมในยุโรป ทำให้ชนชาติเหล่านั้นแข่งขันกันแสวงหาอาณานิคมในทวีปเอเชียด้วยแล้ว สังคมไทยก็ตกเป็นเป้าหมายของกลุ่มชาวยุโรป โดยเฉพาะอังกฤษ ฝรั่งเศส และอิทธิพลของวัฒนธรรม ตะวันตกก็ยังคงต่อเนื่องมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน ด้วยสาเหตุต่อไปนี้ 
1. ความเจริญทางด้านการคมนาคมขนส่ง ทำให้การเดินทางสะดวก การเผยแพร่วัฒนธรรมจะเร็วขึ้น 
2. อิทธิพลจากสื่อมวลชนต่าง ๆ เช่น ภาพยนตร์ โทรทัศน์ หนังสือ และสิ่งตีพิมพ์อื่น ๆ 
3. การเผยแพร่วัฒนธรรมโดยตรง คือ ประเทศต่าง ๆ ส่งคนเข้ามาเผยแพร่ หรือจากการออกไปศึกษาเล่าเรียน เมื่อกลับมาแล้วก็นำวัฒนธรรมนั้นมาเผยแพร่
