มาลา คำจันทร์ เป็นนามปากกาของ เจริญ มาลาโรจน์ นักเขียนรางวัลวรรณกรรมสร้างสรรค์ยอดเยี่ยมแห่งอาเซียน (ซีไรต์)จากเรื่อง เจ้าจันท์ผมหอม นิราศพระธาตุอินทร์แขวน เกิด 12 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2495 ที่ ต.เมืองพาน อ.พาน อ.เชียงราย จบการศึกษาจากวิทยาลัยครูเชียงใหม่ และรับราชการเป็นครู 11 ปี และได้จบปริญญาตรีคณะศึกษาศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ และปริญญาโท วิชาจารึกภาษาไทย คณะโบราณคดี มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร เคยเป็นอาจารย์ภาษาไทยที่มหาวิทยาลัยหอการค้าไทย และมหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ เคยได้รับเลือกให้เป็นประธานชมรมวรรณศิลป์ ของโรงเรียนศิริมาตย์ฯ ในขณะที่กำลังเรียนอยู่ชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 2 ผลงานเขียนชิ้นแรกที่เขียนยาวคือ นิราศผาโขง งานชิ้นนี้เขียนกลอนแปดไม่ได้รับการเผยแพร่
