จากการวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการวางแผนครอบครัวของวัยรุ่นในพื้นที่ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนใต้ ตามกระทรวงสาธารณสุข และเพื่อสำรวจวิธีการคุมกำเนิดหรือวางแผนครอบครัวในพื้นที่ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนใต้ กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือวัยรุ่นช่วงอายุระหว่าง 15 – 20 ปี งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณตามแนวทางการศึกษาประชากรศาสตร์เรื่องอนามัยเจริญพันธุ์เป็นหลักควบคู่กับการวิจัยเชิงปฏิบัติเก็บรวบรวมโดยการศึกษาการข้อมูลปฐมภูมิและข้อมูลทุติยภูมิ โดยใช้แบบสอบสามและการสัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึกโดยอาศัยคำถามนำ กำหนดประเด็น คือ ลักษณะการวางแผนครอบครัว หรือวิธีการคุมกำเนิด และการลงพื้นที่ในการสำรวจและสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มตัวอย่าง ผลการวิจัยพบว่าในกลุ่มตัวอย่างวัยรุ่นในพื้นที่ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนใต้ ส่วนใหญ่ไม่ทราบวิธีการวางแผนครอบครัวหรือการคุมกำเนิดตามกระทรวงสาธารณสุข ร่วมถึงวิธีการคุมกำเนิดของกลุ่มตัวอย่าง ส่วนใหญ่กลุ่มตัวอย่างใช้วิธีแบบธรรมชาติคือการหลั่งนอก และนับวันปลอดภัย ทานยาคุมกำเนิดแบบธรรมดาและแบบฉุกเฉิน ถุงยางอนามัย ฉีดยาคุม ตามลำดับ ซึ่งมีกลุ่มตัวอย่างบางรายทราบวิธีต่างๆหลังจากการทำแบบสอบถามในครั้งนี้
