งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความหลากหลายของทรัพยากรชีวภาพในแหล่งน้ำของมหาวิทยาลัยพะเยาได้แก่ปลา แมลงน้ำ สาหร่าย และแพลงก์ตอนพืช ในแหล่งน้ำภายในพื้นที่เส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา และเพื่อศึกษาคุณภาพน้ำบางประการในแหล่งน้ำภายในพื้นที่เส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา โดยทำการเก็บรวบรวบตัวอย่างปลา ในแหล่งน้ำบริเวณจากเส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา บริเวณห้วยทับช้าง จำนวน 3 จุด, เก็บตัวอย่างแมลงน้ำโดยวิธี visual, sweep net, kick และ pick method ในบริเวณน้ำนิ่ง น้ำไหล และบริเวณที่มีเศษใบไม้กิ่งไม้ เพื่อให้ครอบคลุมลักษณะถิ่นที่อยู่ของแมลงน้ำแต่ละกลุ่มเป็นเวลา 5 นาที, เก็บตัวอย่างสาหร่ายและแพลงก์ตอนจากแหล่งน้ำในพื้นที่เส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา จำนวน 3 จุดในแหล่งน้ำห้วยทับช้างซึ่งเป็นแหล่งน้ำไหล โดยใช้จุดเดียวกันกับการเก็บตัวอย่างปลา และเก็บตัวอย่างน้ำจากเส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา บริเวณห้วยทับช้าง จำนวน 3 จุด โดยเก็บบริเวณกลางแหล่งน้ำที่ระดับความลึก 30 เซนติเมตร โดยเก็บที่ระดับผิวน้ำลึก 30 เซนติเมตร ผลการศึกษาพบว่าความหลากหลายปลาในแหล่งน้ำ ภายในพื้นที่เส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา พบว่าปลาทั้งหมด 9 ครอบครัว 11 สกุล 12 ชนิด โดยพบครอบครัว Cyprinidae (ปลาตะเพียน) มากที่สุด จำนวน 3 ชนิดคือ Barbonymus gonionotus (ปลาตะเพียน), Cyprinus carpio (ปลาไน) และ Pethia stoliczkana
